The green bean plant like loose soils that are well drained and have a pH of between 6.0 and 7.0. They naturally absorb nitrogen in the soil hence they do not need heavy fertilizers in terms of nitrogen. Rather, apply equal amounts of compost or a low- nitrogen fertilizer prior to planting. Excess application of nitrogen would cause leaves to be green and little beans. This must have good drainage to avoid fungal disease and root rot.
