The Air Travel Became an Engine of Growth

Vietnam has been experiencing a rapid increase in air connectivity, making it a major contributor to tourist recovery. Air travel is the fastest expanding mode of transport in the Vietnamese tourism sector, not only in terms of international traveling, but also in domestic tourism linking major destinations such as Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh cities. Moreover, under-construction airports, such as the Long Thanh International Airport that is close to Ho Chi Minh City, are also believed to boost passenger carrying capacity considerably and foster tourism development.

v In May 2025, Airports Corporation of Vietnam stated that the construction of a second runway at Long Thanh International Airport is scheduled to commence by early June 2025, with project completion expected within 12 months, as per the Centre for Aviation.

Regional Investments Reshape Tourism Hubs

The three major regions in Vietnam, the Northern, Central, and Southern, are experiencing disparate growth journeys, supported by wise financial investments and shifting consumer travel preferences.

·        The South Vietnamese region, headlined by Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc Island, keeps dominating the marketplace on the basis of revenue and number of visitors. Ho Chi Minh City alone generated USD 303 million in tourism-related activities during the 2025 Tet Holidays due to nightlife, culinary tourism, and international events.

·        In Central Vietnam, such cities as Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue are becoming powerful contenders. This area has become an attraction to cultural tourism, family tourism, and the burgeoning MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) sector.

·        Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Sapa, and Ha Long Bay) is one of the most important regions when it comes to heritage, adventure, and nature-based tourism. Also, Hanoi generated USD 139 million in revenue during the 2025 Tet Holidays. These destinations are also being connected to the international market through improved transportation infrastructure, which includes expressways and enhanced rail lines.
