Old School RuneScape has added an impressive number of features since the beginning of February. Alongside Jagex offering additional obstacles to managers, the game developer has been working with the community to develop new features. Since the creation of Ironman mode players have been asking for more flexible options with OSRS Accounts to play. Since then, Hardcore Ironman mode has been released and players can be bestowed the title "Hardcore" until the time they die. The addition of these layers created Old School RuneScape quite distinct from its previous version.

Although the community was happy with the inclusion of Hardcore Ironman mode, some participants found it to be an extremely feeling of isolation. There are numerous tips on the internet that can be used by Ironman player in the mode, however, having the capability to be part of an entire group of players can totally alter the game. As Jagex initially said, one person could be the potion master of the group while the other cooks food, making an array of possibilities that have never been seen before. With time passing without Jagex giving any information on the update people players were beginning to lose faith. The community was constantly asking to get updates but Jagex was silent.

The subreddit of the game started creating memes about Group Ironman, treating the game as if it was an idea that was not even been publicly announced. Creators of content turned their eyes towards alternative concepts and the well-known RuneScape YouTube star "Settled" started the region-encrypted Ultimate Ironman run in 2019. A large portion of the community had abandoned the hype surrounding Group Ironman. Others creators reverted to losing billions in the duel track, while Jagex did not speak.

As Runescape marked its 20th anniversary the previous year, users were offered the Group Ironman release date, scheduled for just a month following the announcement. The vote to implement it was passed with a massive majority. The decision to add Group Ironman became the most attended to poll in the history of RuneScape exceeding the inclusion of Warding as an ability with OSRS Boosting Service by more than thousands of votes. Two years after the first announcement of the idea, Group Ironman released, and Old School RuneScape has witnessed the highest player numbers ever before.
