Old School RuneScape (OSRS) has a rich history of content updates that have added new challenges, quests, and rewards for players. Among the most unique updates is the introduction of the Giants' Foundry. This new skilling activity allows players to smelt and forge items in a foundry that is inspired by the ancient giants of Gielinor. Players who participate in this activity can craft various items and gain valuable experience in Smithing, while also earning OSRS gold and other rewards.

In this guide, we will cover everything you need to know about the Giants' Foundry, from its setup and mechanics to how to maximize your experience gains and rewards.

How to Access the Giants' Foundry

To access the Giants' Foundry, players need to meet certain prerequisites and follow a few simple steps:

Requirements:

Smithing Level: At least 30 Smithing is required to participate in the Giants' Foundry activity.

Quest Requirement: You must have completed the "The Giants' Foundry" quest. This quest has a relatively low difficulty and can be completed relatively quickly, allowing you to unlock the foundry mechanics.

Location:

The Giants' Foundry is located north of the Eagle's Peak area, near the Keldagrim entrance. The foundry itself is nestled within the icy mountains of the Dwarven Mines.

Unlocking the Foundry:

After completing the quest, you'll be able to speak with Kerris in the foundry and begin forging weapons for the giants. Kerris will guide you through the initial steps and introduce you to the basic mechanics of the foundry.

Giants' Foundry Mechanics

At the core of the Giants' Foundry is a unique skilling system that revolves around crafting weapons for the giants. The process involves multiple steps, including selecting the right mold, forging the weapon, and cooling it down.

Here's an overview of how the mechanics work:

Molds:

Before you start, you'll need to select a mold that corresponds to the type of weapon you want to forge. There are different molds available, each associated with different weapon types, such as swords, maces, hammers, and axes.

The more challenging the mold, the higher the potential rewards. Each weapon type also has a difficulty level that impacts how much experience you can gain.

Smelting and Molding:

Once you've selected your mold, you'll need to collect the ore and use the furnace to smelt the metal. The process involves timing and skill, as you'll need to make sure the metal is heated to the right temperature.

After smelting, you'll pour the molten metal into the mold and wait for it to solidify. Properly timing this process is crucial to maximizing your efficiency and gaining higher experience rewards.

Forging the Weapon:

After the mold has solidified, you'll need to forge the weapon by placing it into the forge and hammering it to shape. This step requires a precise balance of timing and stamina. You must apply force at the right moments to avoid damaging the weapon, which will lower your rewards.

The more precise you are during the forging process, the better the quality of the weapon, and the more experience you will earn.

Cooling and Finishing:

Once the weapon is forged, it needs to be cooled in water. The cooling process must be done carefully, as immersing the weapon too quickly or too slowly can lead to flaws, reducing the amount of experience you gain.

After the weapon has cooled, it is ready to be handed over to Kerris, who will evaluate its quality. If you've forged the weapon successfully, you will receive a reward in the form of Smithing experience, cheap RS gold, and possibly other items like foundry tokens.

Maximizing Rewards and Experience

To truly benefit from the Giants' Foundry, you need to focus on maximizing your efficiency and rewards. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of the foundry:

Choosing the Right Mold:

Higher-level molds will yield higher rewards, but they are more difficult to forge successfully. You'll need to balance your Smithing level with your ability to craft higher-level weapons. Consider starting with easier molds and gradually progressing to more complex ones as you gain experience and confidence.

Managing Your Materials:

The materials you use in the foundry are important. Ore is consumed when crafting weapons, and you need to ensure you have a steady supply to keep working. You can buy ores from the nearby shop in Keldagrim, but you should also consider mining your own materials to save money.
