U4GM Explains Why FH6 Finally Feels Right on a Wheel

I'll admit it: I never really trusted Horizon with a steering wheel. Forza Horizon 5 looked gorgeous, sure, but the moment I bolted on my wheel, it felt like I was fighting the game more than driving the car. A controller was easier, cleaner, and usually faster. That's why the early talk around Forza Horizon 6 feels so odd, in a good way. If Playground Games really has tightened up wheel support, players may care about car control, tuning, and even earning Forza Horizon 6 Credits in a different way this time.

Japan changes the whole feel

The biggest reason wheels might finally make sense is the setting. Japan isn't just a pretty backdrop. It changes how you drive. Wide Mexican roads gave you loads of space to slide around and correct mistakes with a thumbstick. Mountain roads don't play like that. A narrow downhill section, a blind bend, a tight hairpin after a short straight — that stuff rewards small inputs. You don't just flick left and hope. You feed the car in, feel the front tyres load up, then try not to overcook it on exit. That's where a wheel can actually earn its place.

The preview build sounds promising

Early preview impressions suggest this isn't just marketing fluff. OverTake's hands-on report pointed out that wheel users could drive with more accuracy than expected, and in some cases faster than with a pad. That's not something people normally say about a Horizon game. The new 540-degree steering animation helps too. It sounds like a small visual detail, but it matters when your hands on the wheel match what the driver is doing on screen. Braking also seems to have more weight to it. You can sense the car leaning forward, and when the front end starts washing wide, the wheel pushes back instead of feeling vague.

Don't rush into expensive gear

That said, I wouldn't tell anyone to panic-buy a fancy direct-drive setup yet. It's tempting, especially when people start throwing around names like Fanatec, Moza, and high-end load-cell pedals. But Horizon is still Horizon. It's not trying to become a strict sim, and the final force feedback could still change before launch. For most players, something like the Thrustmaster T248 makes more sense. It gives enough detail for twisty roads, the pedals are decent, and it won't make you feel silly if you still jump back to a controller for casual cruising or online chaos.

The real test is long sessions

What I'm most curious about is whether the wheel stays fun after the first hour. A good setup isn't just about lap times. It's about whether you want to keep driving when your arms are a bit tired and you're hunting one more clean run. Add the new spatial audio system, a headset, and the sound of a turbocharged Skyline coming alive beside you, and the whole thing could click. Players checking upgrades, cars, and Forza Horizon 6 Credits for Sale will still be playing an accessible racer, but this time the wheel crowd might not feel like guests at someone else's party.
