Trade deadlines are fun times. They are also a period where you need to own a shovel, 'cause youre going to be digging through a lot of well, you know. Case and point a rumor that , which Minnesota has flat-out denied. This is the type of rumor that checks all the boxes notable name that even marginal hockey fans know, player on the outs, certain hall-of-famer going to a team with a supposed need at his position. So why does it have next to no chance to happening? Because of a tiny but significant problem: Brodeur isnt a good goalie anymore. A quick search on . Currently Brodeur owns an even-strength save percentage of .901 in 29 games. There are two goalies in the league who have played 20 games with a worse save percentage. One is the Islanders Kevin Poulin at .900 and the other is Devan Dubnyk, who already has been traded once, at .898. Poulin is in the minors now and Dubnyk was waived yesterday. As you can see, if Brodeur hasnt been the worst Juventus Jersey goalie in the league this year, hes been close. But he certainly the worst value in the league. Brodeurs cap hit this year is $4.5 million. Dubnyks is $1.75 million. Poulin is $577,500. Martin Brodeur may not be good enough to be an NHL backup, at this point. Hes certainly not worth what hes being paid. The idea that anyone would give up something of value to a player who, thanks to his contract, is a net negative, seems unlikely. If you had to give up something of value, Jaroslav Halak, who makes le s money, is a better deal. If you dont want to give up something of value pretty much any other backup in the league is a better option to try to catch lightning in a bottle. That includes the current starter in Minnesota. Darcy Kuemper, the guy Brodeur would be replacing at the moment, has a .938 even strength save percentage in 18 games this year. And his cap hit is $776,667. Sure, anything is po sible. Maybe some GM will be enamored by the name and the resume, even if its no longer up to date. That GM would need to have their head examined, but until a trade actually goes down, it seems highly unlikely. But with the NHL trade deadline fast approaching, so expect plenty more unlikely scenarios in the next 24 hours. Get your shovel ready. UPDATE: The Wild acquired Ilya Bryzgalov from the Edmonton Oliers on Tuesday. Austria Jersey
