The have very little by way of young talent. Easton Cowan, though, clearly fits that description. He's a big part of the Leafs Dennis Hull Jersey ' future. You'd think that would mean he'd get to play more at this point. Toronto's season is pretty much lost, so what do they have to lose by playing the youngster? Apparently, they think there's something negative to come from playing Cowan, because he's hardly playing. Recently, he was a healthy scratch, and on Monday night, Cowan was the least-played Maple Leafs skater. He was on the ice for just 8 minutes and 23 seconds. Every other player got at least 14 shifts. Cowan got 11 shifts. Yes, Cowan took a shaky penalty early, and maybe this was Craig Berube's way of teaching him some kind of le son. But at this point, the Maple Leafs don't have time for that. MORE: Either you play Cowan a bunch and he swims, or you play Cowan a bunch and he sinks. Either way, that's the main evaluation the Maple Leafs have left to make in this season that isn't going anywhere. Not playing Cowan is just a poor approach to pile on to what already has been a poor season. There's one piece of good news for Cowan, at least. The expected sell-off by Friday's trade deadline should free up playing time by default. Still, though, it's odd that Toronto hasn't taken this matter into their own hands. How can't they figure out that Cowan should be on the ice for double the time of what he's been getting?
