Keith Yandle is a Ranger and he didn't come cheap. The Coyotes traded the 28-year-old defenseman to New York on Sunday, as first reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.Their return is solid: top prospect Anthony Duclair, defenseman John Mooreand a first-round pick in 2016. MORE: | | Arizona is also retaining 50 percent of Yandle's salary, which was nece sary for New York to stay under the cap. The Rangers also get defenseman Chris Summers, who was a first-round pick in 2006 but has played just 64 NHL games. Initially, defenseman Dan Girardi was reported as a potential piece headed back to Arizona. That would've been great for the Rangers; he's signed to one of the worst contracts in the league. That wasn't the case, though, and the end result is a deal, down the line, that could heavily favor the Coyotes. Duclair, 19 and a third-round pick in 2013, Jalen Chatfield Jersey scored 50 goals in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season and had seven points in 18 games with the Rangers in 2014-15. He's very, very good, and has a ready-mate linemate in Max Domi, who he starred with at the World Junior Championships. In the short term, Yandle makes New York better; he's a gifted skater and puck mover and has 41 points (3G, 37A) so far this season. He'll also count just $2.625 million against the cap until his deal ends after next season. That will help New York finish an extension with forward Mats Zuccarello, over the last few days. Still, this feels like the Rangers mortgaging their future. Duclair was their best prospect, and they've now traded first-round picks in four consecutive drafts. The Eastern Conference is wide open, and the Rangers are right in the mix, as they will be until Henrik Lundqvist retires.Still, it's hard to feel that Yandle puts them over the top in any capacity, and he cost them a potential star. They're as likely tolose in the first round as they are to go to the Cup final, and adding Yandle doesn't change that. The Coyotes, meanwhile, just got themselves an even better shot at drafting Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel. A McDavid-Domi-Duclair line in the fall? That'd be interesting. Rod Brind'amour Jersey
