Why Does RO System Operating Pressure Increase and How to Address It?

Increased operating pressure in RO systems usually stems from membrane pore blockage, concentrated water discharge issues, or excessive feed water flow. Blockages—from scale, colloids, or microbial slime—create resistance, forcing pressure to rise. Clogged concentrated water pipes or malfunctioning valves trap saltwater, further increasing pressure. Monitoring the feed-permeate pressure difference is key: an abnormal spike (over 0.1MPa) indicates blockage.

To fix it, first inspect concentrated water pipelines and valves—clear clogs or replace faulty valves. For membrane blockages, low-pressure flushing removes loose debris; for stubborn scale, use chemical cleaning (e.g., EDTA for sulfate scale). Adjusting feed water flow to recommended limits also prevents overloading. Molewater’s smart PLC systems monitor pressure in real time (data delay ≤3 seconds), triggering automatic flushing or parameter adjustments to avoid pressure spikes. Proactive maintenance, like regular chemical cleaning every 3-6 months, keeps pressure stable long-term. Click here to know more.
