Environmental exposure impacts material choice and maintenance. Cables subjected to dirt, moisture, or extreme temperatures require corrosion-resistant materials and protective coatings. In contrast, motorcycles used in controlled or dry environments can use standard steel strands with minimal protective coating.

Installation and tensioning are additional factors affecting performance. Proper routing, secure fastening, and correct tension prevent kinking, premature wear, and loss of responsiveness.
